🎬 CASTING & CREW CALL – “JESSICA” (Short Film)

Genre: Drama / Emotional Short Film
Theme: Family, loss, and sea safety

I am looking for passionate actors and film crew volunteers to help bring my original short film “Jessica” to life.

I am an 17-year-old filmmaker developing this project and looking for people who want to collaborate, gain experience, build their portfolios, and be part of creating a meaningful short film.

Please note: this is an unpaid volunteer project.
All cast and crew members will receive full credit for their work. The aim is to create a high-quality short film that can be shared through festivals, online platforms, and community screenings.

🎭 ACTORS NEEDED

✨ JESSICA (Female, early teens)

The lead role. A relatable teenager who begins the story distracted by her phone but discovers the importance of family and being present.

Requirements:

* Strong emotional range
* Comfortable portraying vulnerability and fear
* Parent/guardian permission required if under 18

✨ SARAH (Female, mid 30s)

Jessica’s mother. A caring parent who experiences an emotional journey when her daughter goes missing.

✨ DARREN (Male, mid 30s)

Jessica’s father. Protective, calm, and practical as he tries to keep his family safe.

✨ THOMAS (Child actor) (SUBJECT TO CHANGE due to insurance purposes)

Jessica’s younger brother. A cheerful child who shares a close bond with his sister. Due to insurance reasons 16+ but needs to play as an 8 year old.

Requirements:

* Parent/guardian permission required
* Parent/guardian consent forms required before filming
* Be about 16 but look childlike and be able to play a child below 10

✨ ANNE (Older female actor)

Jessica’s grandmother. Warm and caring, but later struggles with guilt and grief.

✨ LIFEGUARD ROBERT (Male, 30s)

A professional lifeguard who manages the emergency situation.

🎥 CREW VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

I am looking for people interested in gaining experience in and have the equipment for these roles (16+):

🎬 Director of Photography / Cinematographer

* Help create the visual style of the film
* Camera, lighting, and composition experience preferred

📹 Camera Operators

* Support filming and capture scenes

🎧 Sound Recordist / Sound Team

* Record dialogue and create professional audio

✂️ Editor / Post-Production Team

* Edit footage, sound design, and help complete the final film

📸 Behind-the-scenes Photographer/Videographer

* Capture production content for promotion and portfolios

🌊 Water Safety Supervisor / Qualified Lifeguard

* Support the production team during any filming near water (will be notified on days we’re filming near or in water)
* Help assess risks and ensure safe working practices around the beach environment
* Provide guidance on water safety procedures during production
* Provide cast with first aid, hot drinks and food

🌊 WATER SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

As filming will take place near the sea, safety is a priority.

All cast and crew members must:

* Be comfortable working near water
* Follow all safety instructions during filming
* Listen to our WSS/QL

Anyone required to film in or close to the water must:

* Be confident in the water
* Have basic swimming ability

No cast or crew member will be asked to enter unsafe water conditions. All water-based scenes will be carefully planned, and filming will only take place when conditions are considered safe and given the green light by the WSS.

A water safety supervisor/qualified lifeguard will be involved in planning and monitoring water-related scenes to help protect the cast and crew.

Note: NO FILMING will take place in water, only BY the water but not IN the water, should we go into water for a little splash it’ll be for like 10 minutes, and it won’t be deep.

“Jessica” follows a family enjoying a day at the beach before a sudden storm changes everything. The story explores family relationships, distraction, responsibility, and the importance of staying safe near the sea.

The goal is to create an emotional short film with a meaningful message that can be shared through festivals, online platforms, and community screenings.
